Infant Formula and Quality: There is No Compromise
When it comes to infant nutrition, quality is paramount and there is no compromise. According to federal regulations and the guidance of healthcare professional groups such as the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), infant formula must be formulated so that it can provide a baby with a sole source of nutrition. Similarly, the same guidelines for safety and quality must be met by all four U.S. infant formula companies and the brands of baby formula they manufacture: Mead Johnson Nutritionals (Enfamil®), Abbott Laboratories (Similac®), Nestlé (Gerber®), and PBM Products (Store Brand Formula).
PBM Products, now a Perrigo Company, is the largest supplier of store brand infant formula and nutrition products in the world and one of only four companies recognized by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for meeting the FDA requirements for safety, nutrition, and quality for infant formula-manufacturing in the United States.
The company’s advanced R&D and state-of-the-art manufacturing capabilities enable PBM to provide more than 50 infant formula varieties to more than 47 retailers in the United States.
The truth is there is no "generic baby formula" in the U.S. infant nutrition market.
One of the Most Advanced Labs in the World
Purchased from Wyeth in 2005, the PBM facility based in northern-Vermont is the only ISO 9001:2008-certified, infant formula-manufacturing factory in the country, adhering to FDA guidelines and a stringent set of quality-assurance regulations set by the International Organization for Standardization.
The state-of-the-art facility, which has been manufacturing powder infant formula for more than 20 years, operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week and employs more than 300 people who are committed to providing essential nutrition for healthy infant development.
Vermont and Ohio-Based Facilities
Purchased in 2009 from Kerry Inc., a leading supplier of technology-based ingredients, flavors, and integrated solutions for the food and beverage industry, the facility in Covington, Ohio, manufactures infant formula for leading retailers nationwide. The plant is also currently undergoing ISO 9001:2008 certification.
All PBM infant formulas produced by its Ohio facility are nutritionally complete and meet the strict nutritional and packaging guidelines determined by the FDA. The facility shares the same commitment to provide safe, quality nutritional and consumer products that consistently meet or exceed customer expectations and regulatory requirements.
